Hydraulic brakes are generally considered to be superior to mechanical brakes for ebikes in a number of ways. Here are a few reasons why:
- Better performance: Hydraulic brakes offer better modulation and control compared to mechanical brakes. This means that you can apply the brakes more smoothly and precisely, which is especially important when riding an ebike, which tends to be heavier and faster than a traditional bike.
- Increased power: Hydraulic brakes provide more stopping power than mechanical brakes, which is especially useful when riding an ebike, which tends to be heavier and faster than a traditional bike. This increased power can help to reduce the distance it takes to stop, which is especially important for safety.
- Improved durability: Hydraulic brakes are generally more durable than mechanical brakes, as they are less prone to wear and tear. This means that you can expect longer-lasting performance from your hydraulic brakes, which can save you time and money in the long run.
- Easier maintenance: Hydraulic brakes require less maintenance than mechanical brakes, as they have fewer moving parts and do not rely on cables. This makes them easier to service and maintain, which can save you time and hassle.
- Better adaptability: Hydraulic brakes are easier to adjust than mechanical brakes, which makes them more adaptable to different terrain and riding styles. This can be especially useful if you plan to ride your ebike on a variety of surfaces or in different weather conditions.
Overall, while both hydraulic and mechanical brakes have their pros and cons, hydraulic brakes tend to offer a number of advantages.

So far these are working well- good stopping power even with a kid on the back of the bike. I installed them myself and I don’t have a lot of experience with bike brakes. I have the radrunner +, which has a suspension fork. I needed to use a spacer for the front brake – which was different from the video. Removing the handlebar grips was super difficult. When I looked it up, there was a recommendation to use some rubbing alcohol to help get them on and off. It made putting the grips back on a 1000x easier.

Worthwhile upgrade

The hydraulic brakes are a great upgrade even if you haven’t upgraded the motor ( eggrider or actual upgrade ) but they’re a must if you have.Excellent stopping power & the peace of mind that you don’t need to do constant maintainance. The installation video was great to allow me to install them myself!

I just finished installing the XOD hydraulic brakes on both my wife’s and my RadRunner Plus e-bikes. Install was super easy while following Gareth’s YouTube installation video. Hardest part was removing the hand grips just like Gareth said. I was able to remove the hand grips by heating with a blow dryer and slowly working them off. Grips all re-installed fine and are as solid before. It’s a great feeling now that I don’t have to worry about my wife going down the steep hills here and being able to stop the bike. Looking forward to no more readjusting the brakes for cable stretch. Do it for your safety!

I needed more powerful brakes after having the Eggrider installed. When cycling at higher speeds, these brakes make the difference! Easy to install, thanks to the instruction videos. These brakes should be standard on the Rad power bikes, if you ask me.
